Sweet Sunny South

Tabbed for clawhammer ukulele, based on the version recorded by Jerry Garcia and David Grisman on their album “Shady Grove.” Garcia and Grisman play this on two banjos.

Standard tuning. This one is a little tricky. For the first 7 measures you’ll want to keep the index, middle and ring fingers of your left hand in a G chord, using your pinky finger to fret the melody notes not in the chord. This includes a pinky pull-off in the sixth measure.

In the eighth measure, use your ring and pinky fingers to fret a C-no-third chord.

Starting at the end of the ninth measure, switch to use your index finger (2nd fret), middle finger (3rd fret), and your pinky (5th fret) to walk up the A string. Then use your index finger and middle fingers to fill out the G chord.

At the end of the 11th measure, use your middle finger (not your index finger) to play the first fret of the A string. Then slide up to form the G chord again in the 12th measure. Repeat this in the 14th measure.

Have fun with it!
